Format : 20 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-571-22034-2 Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Littérature:Poésie
Pacifisme et militarismeMots-clés : Guerre Index. décimale : 808.8 Recueils de textes littéraires appartenant à plusieurs littératures Résumé : From the earliest times poets have spoken out against the horrors of war - many dying on the battlefields on which they wrote.
This extraordinary anthology gathers together the most startling poems against war ever written - from an infamous last stand in Ancient Greece to the chemical warfare of the present day Gulf. Featuring many of our most treasured poets - Wilfred Owen, Philip Larkin, Stevie Smith and Emily Dickinson among them - 101 Poems Against War selects too from the poems being written across the barricades: the enemy soldier, a German widow, a young Vietnamese boy, and by the Arabic poets of today.
From the men who held their dying friends to the agony of the women left behind, this anthology gathers those moments of warning and protest from all corners of the earth: the times in which it was left to the poets to speak out against the true terror of war.Permalink : https://bi.b-a-m.org/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=8289 101 poems against war [texte imprimé] / Andrew Motion, Postfacier, auteur du colophon, etc. ; Matthew Hollis, Editeur scientifique . - London : Faber and Faber, 2003 . - 147 p. ; 20 cm.

Titre : Anarchism & sexuality : ethics, relationships and power Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Jamie Heckert, Editeur scientifique ; Richard Cleminson, Editeur scientifique Editeur : London : Routledge Année de publication : 2013 Collection : Social justice Importance : 1 vol. (XVIII-232 p.) Présentation : couv. ill. en coul. Format : 24 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-415-59989-4 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 306.7 Relations entre sexes. Pratiques sexuelles Résumé : Anarchism & Sexuality aims to bring the rich and diverse traditions of anarchist thought and practice into contact with contemporary questions about the politics and lived experience of sexuality. Both in style and in content, it is conceived as a book that aims to question, subvert and overflow authoritarian divisions between the personal and political; between sexual desires categorised as heterosexual or homosexual; between seemingly mutually exclusive activism and scholarship; between forms of expression such as poetry and prose; and between disciplinary categories of knowledge. Anarchism & Sexuality seeks to achieve this by suggesting connections between ethics, relationships and power, three themes that run throughout. The key objectives of the book are: to bring fresh anarchist perspectives to debates around sexuality; to make a queer and feminist intervention within the most recent wave of anarchist scholarship; and to make a queerly anarchist contribution to social justice literature, policy and practice. By mingling prose and poetry, theory and autobiography, it constitutes a gathering place to explore the interplay between sexual and social transformation. This book will be of use to those interested in anarchist movements, cultural studies, critical legal theory, gender studies, and queer and sexuality studies. He leads us along the intertwining environmental and philosophical strands of Antibodies, through the passion of Anarchangels and The Task and on to a cutting analysis of Gladio, a state-terrorist branch of what he calls the "plutofascist" system. Also included, alongside short pieces on Taoism and Jungian psychology, is an interview with the author, in which he explains key aspects of his approach. "Very readable and profoundly thoughtful... Format : 21 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-679-77126-5 Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 305.4 Femmes Résumé : From one of this country's most important intellectuals comes a brilliant analysis of the blues tradition that examines the careers of three crucial black women blues singers through a feminist lens. Angela Davis provides the historical, social, and political contexts with which to reinterpret the performances and lyrics of Gertrude "Ma" Rainey, Bessie Smith, and Billie Holiday as powerful articulations of an alternative consciousness profoundly at odds with mainstream American culture.
The works of Rainey, Smith, and Holiday have been largely misunderstood by critics. Overlooked, Davis shows, has been the way their candor and bravado laid the groundwork for an aesthetic that allowed for the celebration of social, moral, and sexual values outside the constraints imposed by middle-class respectability. Through meticulous transcriptions of all the extant lyrics of Rainey and Smith−published here in their entirety for the first time−Davis demonstrates how the roots of the blues extend beyond a musical tradition to serve as a conciousness-raising vehicle for American social memory. A stunning, indispensable contribution to American history, as boldly insightful as the women Davis praises, Blues legacies and black feminism is a triumph.Permalink : https://bi.b-a-m.org/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=8357 Blues legacies and black feminism : Gertrude "Ma" Rainey, Bessie Smith, and Billie Holiday [texte imprimé] / Angela Davis (1944-....), Auteur . - New York : Vintage Books, 1998 . - 1 vol. Format : 21 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-9576566-5-9 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 120 Épistémologie, causalité, genre humain Résumé : In this important work, Paul Cudenec challenges layer upon layer of the assumptions that lie largely unchallenged beneath contemporary industrial capitalist society.
He rejects limited definitions of freedom as an absence of specific restraints in favour of a far deeper and more radical analysis which describes individual, collective, planetary and metaphysical levels of freedom.
A powerful and tightly-argued work inspired by a profoundly coherent anarchist vision, Forms of Freedom is a potential classic of 21st century revolutionary philosophy.
“How can the human race embrace freedom if it does not have a clear idea of what freedom is? How can we ever gain a clear idea of freedom if we do not even start looking for it in the right places? A collective delusion has taken over humanity, fogged its mind, rendered it incapable of understanding its own essential reality or the way in which it has become blinded to that reality and thus incapable of acting in its own real interests”.Permalink : https://bi.b-a-m.org/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=7723 Forms of freedom [texte imprimé] / Paul Cudenec . - Winter Oak Press, 2015 . - 1 vol. Paul Cudenec argues that as well as fighting capitalism in a physical and day-to-day sense, we need to fight it on a philosophical level. “Humankind’s belonging to the living flesh of our planet is an essential reality of our innermost nature. A profound sense of this belonging will therefore always surface, time and time again, in the hearts and minds of each new generation, whatever the obstacles placed in its way by the dominant anti-natural system under which we live". On Anarchism sheds a much needed light on the foundations of Chomsky's thought, specifically his constant questioning of the legitimacy of entrenched power. The book gathers his essays and interviews to provide a short, accessible introduction to his distinctively optimistic brand of anarchism. Refuting the notion of anarchism as a fixed idea, and disputing the traditional fault lines between anarchism and socialism, this is a book sure to challenge, provoke and inspire. Profoundly relevant to our times, it is a touchstone for political activists and anyone interested in deepening their understanding of anarchism, or of Chomsky's thought.

Titre : The Anarchist Revelation : Being What We're Meant to Be Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Paul Cudenec, Auteur Editeur : Winter Oak Press Année de publication : 2013 Importance : 1 vol. (144 p.) Présentation : couv. ill. en coul. Format : 23 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-9576566-0-4 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 320.57 Anarchisme Résumé : Here, Paul Cudenec turns his back on contemporary trends of anarchism in a bid to reconnect with the primal force of its root ideology. Cudenec notes the significance of its refusal of the state and its judicial system, of land ownership and of the need to work for wages in order to live.
But he goes further in suggesting that anarchism represents a whole way of thinking that stands in direct opposition to the blinkered materialism of contemporary society and its soul-stifling positivist dogma. He writes: “The anarchist does not merely stray outside the framework of acceptable thinking as carefully assembled by the prevalent system – she smashes it to pieces and dances on the wreckage.”
Cudenec explores the fluidity and depth of thinking found in anarchism, in stark contrast to Marxism, and identifies, in particular, a love of apparent paradox that seems to appeal to the anarchist psyche. He also sees a connection between and anarchism and esoteric forms of religion – such as Sufism, Taoism and hermeticism – whose inner light defies the crushing patriarchal conservatism and hierarchy of the exoteric institutions.
In making his case, Cudenec draws on the work of anarchists such as Gustav Landauer, Michael Bakunin and Herbert Read. But he also widens the field of enquiry to include the philosophy of René Guénon, Herbert Marcuse and Jean Baudrillard; the existentialism of Karl Jaspers and Colin Wilson; the vision of Carl Jung, Oswald Spengler and Idries Shah, and the environmental insight of Derrick Jensen and Paul Shepard.
The book is described by John Zerzan in Why Hope? The Stand Against Civilization as “the least pessimistic book I can recall reading… It brings anarchist resistance and the spirit together in a very wide-ranging and powerful contribution”.
A review by anarchist writer Gabriel Kuhn adds: “The book attempts no less than equipping contemporary anarchism with a footing that is often neglected: the transformation not only of society’s structures but also of people’s souls”.Permalink : https://bi.b-a-m.org/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=7722 The Anarchist Revelation : Being What We're Meant to Be [texte imprimé] / Paul Cudenec, Auteur . - Winter Oak Press, 2013 . - 1 vol. He is the fictional creation of il fachiro, an Eastern philosopher who arrived in Renaissance Florence in 1459 and challenged Cosimo di Medici and Marsilio Ficino’s Neoplatonist revival with his own empowering and anarchic metaphysics.
Paul is a writer visiting 21st century Italy who, while laying himself open to inspiration from the energies and art of the Florentine past, comes across an historical account of il fachiro and his fables. In this selection of 100 popular poems, poets of every age consider that most universal of themes: love. As well as traditional lovers' favourites such as Elizabeth Barrett Browning's 'How do I love thee?' and Shakespeare's 'Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?' there are contemporary voices such as Adrian Mitchell, Wendy Cope and John Fuller, whose erudite yet salacious 'Valentine' would melt the most fridgid heart. There are even poems for those more melancholic moments, Hardy's haunting 'After a Journey', for example, and Larkin's poignant 'Love Songs in Age'. Présentation : couv. ill. en coul. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-9576566-2-8 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 192 Philosophie des Îles britanniques Résumé : In The Stifled Soul of Humankind, Paul Cudenec depicts a humanity dispossessed, a society in which freedom, autonomy, creativity, culture, and the spirit of collective solidarity have been deliberately suffocated by a ruthlessly violent and exploitative elite hiding behind the masks of Authority, Property, Law, Progress and God.
But he also identifies an underground current of heresy and resistance which resurfaces at key moments in history and which, he argues, has the primal strength to sweep away the prison walls of our diseased civilization and carry us forward to a future of vitality and renewal.
Cudenec writes: “We have to reintroduce ourselves to history, not as observers but as participants. The power that we can rediscover in ourselves is, among other things, the power to create the future. Prophecy brings hope, hope brings courage, courage brings action, action brings inspiration, inspiration brings more determination, renewed hope, deepened courage.
